Sarpanch killed by naxals

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Mar 14 (UNI) A sarpanch was killed by naxals during a 'Jan Adalat' (people's court) hearing in Bastar district, police said today.

Kodnar village sarpanch Mahadev and five other people were arrested five days back.

On March 12, naxals organised a 'Jan Adalat' in the forest of Usma.

During the meeting, the sarpanch was awarded the death sentence on the suspicion that he was acting as a police informer.

He was later stabbed to death. Other villagers were set free after being beaten up.

The extremists also killed Anganwadi worker Ashadevi Rana on the suspicion that she was a police informer.

HC stays grant of security to 35 persons

SPO killed in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Feb 26 (UNI) A special police officer (SPO) has been killed and two injured by a naxal landmine explosion near Bijapur in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, the police said. A bomb disposal squad was requisitioned following apprehension of a landmine planted near Pamalbaya village on the Bijapur-Gangalur road. After the squad completed its work on the device last evening, it was believed to have been defused. Police official commits suicide in AP

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) A Police officer today committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver in the city. Police said the Madannapet station Inspector Veera Mohan shot himself to death with his revolver at the police quarters, where he was living with his family. The reasons for his death were not known. Student held for sexual molestation

Kancheepuram, Mar 14 (UNI) Police today arrested a college student on sexual molestation charges. Police said Mahesh (22) who was staying in Oorapakkam near Chengalpet had developed intimacy with a 19-year-old girl working in Chennai for a private firm. Mahesh allegedly took the girl to his room where he outraged her modesty. The girl then lodged a complaint with the police who registered a case and arrested Mahesh. UNI.....
