Protect rights of Jharkhand tribals: Brinda

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat today raised the issue of Jharkhand tribals in the Rajya Sabha, saying the Centre must protect their rights.

The state assembly has passed a resolution to decrease reserved seats for scheduled tribes from 28 to 21, she said during the zero hour.

The Centre should intervene to reverse this, said Ms Karat, adding antayodya schemes in Jharkhand must spread to check migration from the state.

Vietnam to consider freeing journalist: Post

Washington, Mar 17: Vietnam has agreed to consider releasing an imprisoned journalist, after US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice raised his case in a discussion on human rights, the Washington Post reported today.It said Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem said in an interview with the Post that Vietnam would consider amnesty for the journalist, who has been held since 2002 and was sentenced to seven years in prison.Rice raised the case of Nguyen Vu Binh, 39, in the meeting on.....

Govt committed to expediting resolution of labour disputes

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Government today said it would take all steps to ensure the speedy disposal of pending cases under the Industrial Disputes Act. Answering a question regarding the functioning of the labour courts and tribunal, Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes said there were 22 Central Government Industrial Tribunals cum Labour Courts (CGITs) in the country for dispute resolution. Gujarat had the maximum number of pending cases of 1867 in Ahmedabad CGIT followed by.....

Bandit chieftain Jagjivan Parihar dead

Morena, MP, Mar 15 (UNI) Dacoit chieftain Jagjivan Parihar, who carried a reward of Rs 5.5 lakh on his head, has been killed in an encounter in this district's Garhi Budhara village along with six other members of his gang, the police said. During last night's police action, Town Inspector Veerendra Singh Bhadauria was also killed and four personnel injured but stated to be out of danger. They were undergoing treatment at Gwalior. The Uttar Pradesh Police had announced a reward.....
