PIB launches public information campaign at Manipur

Imphal, March 14 (UNI) A three-day Public Information Campaign(PIC) organised by PIB in collaboration with various I and B Ministry units has began in Tamenglong District.

The campaign, which began yesterday, focusses on Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal Scheme and a National Rural Health Mission.

PIB officials said the second part of the campaign will begin on March 17 at Kakching, Thoubal District and will continue for three days.

Deputy Commissioner Mr T Panmei, who was also the Chief Guest at the inaugural function, said the campaign will help people become aware of government schemes and ensure their participation in its implementation.

Mr Tale thanked the Centre for the development schemes, while appealing to the implementing agencies to be sincere and honest.

Senior government officials spoke about the schemes and organised interaction programmes.

National Games Jharkhand's prestige, Koda tells House

Ranchi, Mar 14 (UNI) Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda today assured the House that the government would spare no pains to ensure smooth conduct of National Games in the state. Mr Koda's assurance came after the Assembly was adjourned twice as the Opposition created a din during the Question Hour, criticising the UPA government over law and order issue in the state. Concerned over the continuous noisy scene prevailing in the House, Mr Koda said it was not ''fair'' to disrupt.....

India, Pakistan to launch Kargil-Skardu bus service

Islamabad, Mar 14 (UNI) Pakistan has agreed in principle to open the Kargil-Skardu route for a bus service, Foreign Secretary of India Shiv Shankar Menon said today. "We can now start discussions on the modalities for implementing the decision," he told a joint press conference held along with his Pakistani counterpart Riaz Muhsammad Khan in Islamabad while concluding the two-day foreign secretary level talks. He said the two sides also discussed trade across the Line of Control (LoC) but did not.....

US mooting new sanctions against Zimbabwe

Washington, Mar 15 (UNI) The Bush administration is considering new additional sanctions against Zimbabwe in protest against Sunday's ''arrests and beatings'' of opposition leaders in capital Harare. US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labour, Barry Lowenkron will raise the issue during his consultations with the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, today, and will press for a stronger African response to the Harare government's action. State Department's Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey, who gave this information yesterday, said.....
