Photo electoral roll in UP before 2009 general election: CEO

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Election Commission has announced to put in place a comprehensive photo electoral roll in Uttar Pradesh before the 2009 Lok Sabha election.

The decision was taken in New Delhi yesterday in the meeting of the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the different states.

UP CEO Anuj Kumar Bishnoi said here today the EC had decided to have complete photo electoral rolls in the country before the next LS poll.

''After ordering compulsory Election Voters Identity Cards (EPIC) in the coming seven phase UP assembly election, now photo electoral rolls would be the target of the commission,'' he said here.

Mr Bishnoi said there would not be any difficulty in this regard, since the EPIC date would be used to prepare the photo electoral rolls.

''Most areas in Kerala have photo electoral rolls and some places of Rajasthan too have such a system,'' he informed.
