NHM promotes horticulture, floriculture in Gulbarga

Gulbarga, Mar 14 (UNI) The National Horticulture Mission is promoting horticulture and floriculture in this district by providing subsidies and encouraging micro irrigation, Karnataka Horticulture Development Federation Chairman Allam Prabhu Patil said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the NHM had brought 285 hectares under horticulture crops cultivation in the district by providing a subsidy of Rs 75 lakh as against the total sanctioned amount of Rs 1.70 crore.

Mr Patil said the NHM had promoted banana cultivation in 99 hectares by providing a subsidy of Rs 10.43 lakh and floriculture in 53 acres with Rs ten lakh subsidy. Besides, it had provided a subsidy of Rs 2.16 lakh for setting up warm compost units. There were 13 warm compost units in the district, he added.

''We encourage farmers in the area willing to grow rose, tube rose and marigold. The NHM had provided Rs 5.85 lakh subsidy to the farmers to dig up ponds and so far 36 ponds have been dug up for cultivation purpose,'' he explained.

One Asst. Sub-Inspector and a constable suspended for negligence

Mysore, Mar 15 (UNI) One Assistant Sub-Inspector and a Constable were kept under suspension for negligence in their duty while escorting Karnataka Cooperative Minister G T Deve Gowda who was injured when his car met with an accident on March 13 on Mysore-Nanjangud road while returning after attending village festival at Chikka Kanya, near here. District Superintendent of Police S Murugan said that the action was based on a report from Deputy Superintendent of Police Cheluvaraju who probed into the incident......

BCIC says Budgets lacks investment motive

Bangalore, Mar 16 (UNI) The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce today criticised the Karnataka Budget 2007-08 for not providing any incentives to improve investment climate in the State.
