Mulayam's sibling to file nomination papers tomorrow

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Samajwadi Party general secretary and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav will file his nomination papers for the Jaswant Nagar seat tomorrow for the forthcoming assembly elections.

Younger sibling of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, Shivpal is the first senior political leader to file his nomination papers for the assembly elections in the state.

Ballots would be cast in Jaswant Nagar seat in Etawah district on April 7 during phase I of elections.

Shivpal is a two-time MLA and would contest the assembly elections for the third time.

The seven-phase assembly elections process started in Uttar Pradesh yesterday with the governor issuing notification for the first phase polls to 62 seats in 13 districts where polling would be held on April 7.

Nomination papers can be filed till March 20. The Scrutiny of papers would be done on March 21 and nomination papers can be withdrawn till March 23.

Ex-Minister's PA killed, 4 injured in road accident

Puducherry, Mar 8 (UNI) The Personal Assistant of former Puducherry Minister Theni C Jayakumar, was killed on the spot and four others including Mr Jayakumar's wife were injured in a road accident at Pidagam near Villupuram in Tamil Nadu late last night. According to police, Aadilakshmi(50), the wife of Mr Jayakumar, and others were returning to Puducherry after visiting the Pillayarpetti Temple. The mishap occurred when the car, in which they were travelling, dashed against a tree while negotiating a curve.....

UP prepares new panel after EC removes top brass; DGP resigns

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government is working on a new panel of top police officials and bureaucrats after the Election Commission this evening ordered the removal of top brass, including DGP Bua Singh and Principal Secretary (Home) Satish Kumar Agarwal. Outgoing DGP Bua Singh announced voluntary retirement, claming his integrity was in question after the EC order. The new list of officials is to reach EC by tomorrow morning as desired by the body. Earlier, the EC had ordered.....

EC tightens noose on criminals on poll eve

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) The Election Commission today directed the Uttar Pradesh government not to withdraw cases against persons charged with heinous crimes, which invite more than three years of imprisonment. In a directive the EC also asked the state government to send by March 20 all the details of such withdrawn cases during the past six months. The EC further said no such case could be withdrawn in future without its permission. This is the second EC directive to tighten.....
