Militants kill MURDERER

Imphal, Mar 14 (UNI) Revolutionary People's Front Militants killed a man allegedly involved in the murder of an eight-year-old child.

The boy, Laishram Chinglenkhomba, was found killed with his throat slit at Pishum Chinga Macha, here on Monday last by police.

The RPF said it ''enquired'' into the incident and found that Mayengbam Bungthoi of Khagempalli Panthak, Imphal, was allegedly involved in the killing of the boy.

Police said the body of the man was found last night here.

The house of the alleged killer was also pulled down by angry mob last evening at Khagempalli Panthak.

A rally was also organized yesterday here by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the killing of the boy.

Global population to cross 9 billion by 2050: UN

United Nations, Mar 14 (UNI) The world's human population is on track to surpass 9 billion by 2050, according to the newly released 2006 Revision of the official United Nations population estimates and projections, which also predict the number of elderly persons hitting 1 billion by the same time. "One of the surprises is that population growth is most concentrated in the 60- plus age group," Hania Zlotnik, the director of the UN Population Division told a news briefing held yesterday.....

PIB launches public information campaign at Manipur

Imphal, March 14 (UNI) A three-day Public Information Campaign(PIC) organised by PIB in collaboration with various I and B Ministry units has began in Tamenglong District. The campaign, which began yesterday, focusses on Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal Scheme and a National Rural Health Mission. Lankan Air Force jets pound LTTE hideouts in East

Colombo, Mar 14 (UNI) Lankan Air Force fighter jets continued to pound the suspected hideouts of the Tamil Tiger rebels in the Thoppigala jungles for the third day today. The ground troop advancement was also reportedly underway, aiming to flush out the rebels from the jungle pockets in the Eastern Batticaloa district.
