Major fire in ink factory at Silvassa, no loss of life

Silvassa, Mar 14 (UNI) A major fire broke out in an ink plant at village Morkal, about 20 km from here, on the Vapi border today.

Police said the fire broke out at 1500 hrs in an ink-mixing tank of Micro Ink (earlier Hindustan Ink) presumably due to a short-circuit.

Billowing smoke and searing flames were seen soon after the fire outbreak. The blaze has been brought under control by the company's fire-fighting system in association with the Silvass fire brigade.

No loss to life was reported, though there was extensive damage to materials, police added.

Mah govt to enhance power gen capacity: Governor

Police enter strife-torn Nandigram; villagers protest

Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) Police burst teargas shells as armed villagers resisted a huge force from entering the embattled Nandigram area in East Midnapore district this morning. ''The police are entering the area but they are facing resistence,'' Inspector General of Police (Law&Order) Raj Kanojia told UNI. According to local reports, the villagers hurled bombs on the police, that numbered in about 2000, entering Nandigram from three directions to take control of the area.
