Maharashtra opposition disrupts Governor speech at budget session

Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) The budget session of Maharashtra Legislature got underway here today on a stormy note with opposition Shiv Sena-BJP disrupting Governor S M Krishna's address to the joint session of both houses.

Mr Krishna's speech was inaudible for the first ten minutes as the opposition members including senior leaders were on their feet and shouted slogans demanding the Governor make his speech in Marathi as they could not hear the Marathi translation from the head phone given to them on their benches.

When the Governor touched upon the issues of acute power shortage being faced by the state, the Shiv Sena-BJP members raised slogans for a brief moment.

During his speech, Mr Krishna dwelled on the issues of industrial development and growth and economic progress achieved by the state in the past one year despite the calamities.

AR killed 117 militants during last 3 years

Imphal, Mar 14 (UNI) The Assam Rifles (AR) in Manipur have killed 117 militants in the last three years and maintained a peaceful atmosphere in the state, AR PRO said here today. The IG AR (South) formed on March 15, 2004 to exercise operational control and administer the states AR forces, including four Sector HQs and 20 battalions, would complete its three years tomorrow. The PRO said during the three years 117 militants were shot dead, 689 nabbed, 23 militants.....

India,Pak FS talks conclude,Kargil-Skardu bus route to open

Islamabad, Mar 14 (UNI) India and Pakistan have resolved to sustain the peace process for settlement of all outstanding issues including Jammu and Kashmir, and agreed in principle to open the Kargil-Skardu bus route and start a truck service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad. At the two-day Foreign Secretary-level talks which concluded here today, the two countries also agreed to sign six agreements during the fourth round of the Composite Dialogue Process (CDP) for enhancing peace and security. ISBT to operate fully shortly: Transport Minister

Guwahati, Mar 14 (UNI) The Inter-State Bus Terminus(ISBT) on the outskirts of Guwahati, along National Highway 31, would be fully operational after the construction of a linking flyover was completed. Informing this during Question Hour today in the state Assembly, Transport Minister Chandan Brahma said the National Highway Authority of India had undertaken construction of a flyover to link the ISBT with the NH so that regular traffic was not disrupted. ''A few buses going to Meghalaya and Tripura.....
