ISBT to operate fully shortly: Transport Minister

Guwahati, Mar 14 (UNI) The Inter-State Bus Terminus(ISBT) on the outskirts of Guwahati, along National Highway 31, would be fully operational after the construction of a linking flyover was completed.

Informing this during Question Hour today in the state Assembly, Transport Minister Chandan Brahma said the National Highway Authority of India had undertaken construction of a flyover to link the ISBT with the NH so that regular traffic was not disrupted.

''A few buses going to Meghalaya and Tripura touch the ISBT now after departing from Paltan Bazaar in the heart of the city. The ISBT will be fully operational shortly,'' he added.

The ISBT, built at a cost of Rs 26.58 crore, was inaugurated by the chief minister before the National Games.

US for cooperation with Russia on uranium enrichment: Sell

Moscow, Mar 14 (UNI) US-Russia cooperation on setting up international uranium enrichment centres would help promote the safe and secure use of civilian nuclear energy, visiting US Deputy Secretary of Energy, Clay Sell said here today. CM asks Meghalaya police to update govt on progress

Shillong, Mar 14 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang has asked the state police to update the government in every four months on the progress and achievements of the department. Global population to cross 9 billion by 2050: UN

United Nations, Mar 14 (UNI) The world's human population is on track to surpass 9 billion by 2050, according to the newly released 2006 Revision of the official United Nations population estimates and projections, which also predict the number of elderly persons hitting 1 billion by the same time. "One of the surprises is that population growth is most concentrated in the 60- plus age group," Hania Zlotnik, the director of the UN Population Division told a news briefing held yesterday.....
