India, Pak FS talks conclude,resolve to sustain peace process

Islamabad, Mar 14 (UNI) India today asked Pakistan to implement the commitment made in the January 2004 Joint Statement of not allowing its territory to be used for anti-India activities even as the two countries agreed to work for sustaining the peace process.

At the two-day Foreign Secretary-level talks to launch the Fourth Round of the Composite Diaogue Process (CDP), which concluded here this afternoon, the two countries also agreed to start a truck service between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad while Pakistan agreed in principle to open the Kargil-Skardu bus route.

Even though no agreement was signed during the two-day talks, the two sides agreed to conclude six pacts during the Fourth Round of the CDP for enhancing peace and security.

India reiterated the importance of maintaining an atmosphere free from terror and violence to sustain popular support to the dialogue process.

CM asks Meghalaya police to update govt on progress

Shillong, Mar 14 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister D D Lapang has asked the state police to update the government in every four months on the progress and achievements of the department. Global population to cross 9 billion by 2050: UN

United Nations, Mar 14 (UNI) The world's human population is on track to surpass 9 billion by 2050, according to the newly released 2006 Revision of the official United Nations population estimates and projections, which also predict the number of elderly persons hitting 1 billion by the same time. PIB launches public information campaign at Manipur

Imphal, March 14 (UNI) A three-day Public Information Campaign(PIC) organised by PIB in collaboration with various I and B Ministry units has began in Tamenglong District. The campaign, which began yesterday, focusses on Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, Mid-Day Meal Scheme and a National Rural Health Mission.
