IAS officer chargesheeted in Bihar

Patna, Mar 14 (UNI) The Bihar State Vigilance Investigation Bureau today submitted chargesheet before the special court against an IAS officer, under suspension Hemechandra Jha, in a corruption case during his tenure as District Magistrate, Madhepura.

The chargesheet was submitted in the court of Special Vigilance Judge of Patna S P N Singh under various sections of Prevention of Corruption Act. Sanction for prosecution against Jha granted by the Central government was also filed along with the chargesheet.

According to the charges, Jha was arrested under Malsalami police staion of the state capital on October 13, 2006 and Rs 1, 90,200 had been recovered from his possession.

Jha was travelling to Patna from Madhepura on the said date. In investigation, the bureau found that the amount recovered from the possession of Mr Jha was amassed by unfair means.

Step up vigil to curb arms smuggling to Lanka: CPI(M)

Madurai, Feb 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Communist Party of India (Marxist) Tamil Nadu Secretary N Varadarajan today demanded stepping up vigil to prevent smuggling of arms and ammunition from the state to Sri Lanka. Talking to newspersons here, he called for effective monitoring of clandestine manufacture of arms in the wake of the recent seizure of explosives in the coastal districts. Illegal use of beacon lights: Case posted to May 2

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today fixed May 2 as the date of hearing of a writ petition filed against the unauthorised use of beacon lights in Uttar Pradesh. Justices Devi Devi Prasad Singh and J M Paliwal passed this order on a writ petition filed by Sudarsh Awasthi. The court also summoned two political workers Yamin and Sufi Aqeel on April 26 for allegedly issuing threats to chief judicial magistrate of Jyotiba Phule Nagar,.....

Undertrials escape

Jabalpur, Mar 14 (UNI) Three undertrials accused in a bank robbery case escaped from custody after a hearing at the District Court here but two of them were rearrested. Furnishing details of last evening's incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Manohar Verma said, ''Sultan, Imtiaz and Naushad are charged with a two-year-old robbery at the local Dena Bank branch in Anand Nagar. They escaped while preparations were being made to convey them back to Central Jail. Imtiaz and Naushad were rearrested near.....
