Hospital to start working in 2007: Valsaraj

Puducherry, Mar 14 (UNI) The Rs 36-crore women and children hospital here would be inaugurated this year, Health Minister E Valsaraj said today.

In an informal chat with newsmen after visiting the construction site along with MLA R Viswanathan, Health Secretary Balakrishnan and other officials, Mr Valsaraj said the construction work was at final stages and would be completed in another six months following which the hospital would start functioning.

Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) A female condom programme, aimed at reducing women's vulnerability to HIV/AIDS, was launched in Tamil Nadu today. The pilot programme, launched by a partnership between Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society (TANSACS) and Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotional Trust would reach out to 3,000 women from vulnerable population in the state. Oppn stalls AP House in support of farmers

Hyderabad, Mar 12 (UNI) Members of the Telugu Desam Party and other Opposition parties today stalled the proceedings of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for some time, demanding remunerative prices for the produce of farmers in the state. Meghalaya gov to upgrade civil hospital

Shillong, Mar 15 (UNI) Meghalaya's Health and Family Welfare Minister Deborah C Marak today said that the government run Civil hospital here would be soon upgraded and beds raised from from 400 to 600. Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) Police took into custody 50 volunteers of the Tamil Nadu unit of Samajwadi Party(SP) and Yadhavmaha Saba, today when they attempted to take out a procession to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's residence, to submit a memorandum to him for suitable action against those involved in the murder of Yadhav Mahasabha Secretary Pandiyamani at Tiruvotriyur in the city, a few days ago. Lifestyle diseases to rise in India - a study

Mumbai, Mar 16 (UNI) Lifestyle related ailments, which account for 13 per cent of cases needing hospitalisation in the country last year, are likely to go upto 20 per cent by 2016 accordin to a study. A CRISIL research report says over 4.24 crore people suffered from cardiovascular diseases, 33 lakh from cancer and more than 3.75 crore from diabetes in the country last year. These three diseases collectively accounted for 13 per cent of the hospitalised cases but generated 36.....
