HC needs original papers in missing ULFA members case

Guwahati, Mar 14 (UNI) The Gauhati High Court has directed the Centre to submit original documents in connection with the status of certain members of banned militant outfit ULFA.

These militants went missing since Royal Bhutan Army operation against the militant group base in Bhutan in December, 2003.

A two-member Division Bench of the HC had set a deadline of March 30, 2007 to submit the documents in original.

Bhutan authority during operation 'All Clear' to flush out ULFA militants from their country had handed over these militants to the Indian government on December, 2003.

The Court had also directed the Asom government to submit the list of the persons, who were handed over to it by the Indian Army after the operation, by filing an affidavit on March 30.

The court yesterday heard a habeas corpus petition filed by Shyamalee Gogoi, who wanted to know the whereabouts of her husband Punaram Dihingia, an ULFA member.
