Govt committed to expediting resolution of labour disputes

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Government today said it would take all steps to ensure the speedy disposal of pending cases under the Industrial Disputes Act.

Answering a question regarding the functioning of the labour courts and tribunal, Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes said there were 22 Central Government Industrial Tribunals cum Labour Courts (CGITs) in the country for dispute resolution.

Gujarat had the maximum number of pending cases of 1867 in Ahmedabad CGIT followed by 1,738 cases in CGIT in Dhanbad I and 939 cases in Dhanbad II involving the states of Jharkhand and Bihar.

Jabalpur stood at the third place with 1441 pending cases. To remove pendency of cases, the government had added five CGITs during the 10th plan, taking the total to 22.

He said the pendency of cases was not just because of appeals preferred by the affected people but also the employers.

Answering a question on computerisation of land records, Minister for Rural Development Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa and Gujarat had completed the reform process in land ownership records. Computerisation had been completed even at at Taluk level.

The Government, he said was providing Central Grants to the states wanting to computerise the land records.
