Four miscreants arrested for municipality employee's murder

Barrackpore, Mar 14 (UNI) At least four more miscreants were arrested in connection with the murder of Kanchra Municipality employee Ashok Dubey, police said today.

The arrested included Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist Ashok Bhowmick.

Police had earlier arrested three others, who were involved in various crimes in Beejpur area and seized half a dozen pipe guns and 15 live cartridges.

According to police reports, Mr Dubey was killed inside the Municipality complex on January 23. Miscreants allegedly attacked Mr Dubey, hurling bombs that not only killed him but also left a local businessman seriously injured.

Police apprehended the quartet Anjan Roy, brother of Sanjay Roy, who was arrested earlier, Amit Prasad, Kanchan Roy and Anup Das from a cinema hall complex here yesterday.

Police said that these criminals operated in the North 24 Parganas, Nadia and Hooghly.

Seven killed in accident

Krishnanagar, Mar 3 (UNI) The toll in the head-on collision between two vehicles on NH-34 at Ghatagachi today rose to seven, with one more person succumbing to his injures in the hospital. Police said the three injured, including a child, were brought to Kolkata for treatment and the child died in the hospital later. One person kidnapped

Agartala, Mar 14 (UNI) A tribal villager was kidnapped at gunpoint from Jamtilla under Khowai police station yesterday. Police sources said four armed militants, led by Rinku Debbarma of Champahower, raided the house of Akhil Debbarma at Jamtilla, about 13 km south east from police station last night, and kidnapped him. The Officer-in-Charge, along with security personnel, visited the spot. Security forces launched a special operation to rescue the kidnapped persons. Lalu joins Holi celebrations

Patna, Mar 3 (UNI) Getting into the mood of Holi, a day ahead of the festival, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today doled out colour to the scribes and ''Sushasan ka Gutkha'' to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Mr Prasad, along with his wife Rabri Devi joined a select group of invitees at his residence here in the Holi fanfare. Releasing ''Sushasan ka Gutkha'', a satirical discourse on Nitish Kumar government, the Railway Minister said the Chief Minister had assumed power on.....
