Four IAS officers transferred in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Mar 14 (UNI) R M Patel, IAS, Principal Secretary, Gujarat government, tourism, pilgrimage development and devasthan management, Industries and mines department, has been transferred and appointed as Principal secretary, Social Justice&empowerment department relieving R S Saxena, IAS, of additional charge of the post.

Atanu Chakraborty has been appointed as secretary in place of R M Patel. Mr Chakroborty was earlier appointed as Joint Managing Director Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation on March 3, 2007, which has been cancelled.

Raj Gopal, development commissioner, Gandhinagar is transferred and appointed as Commissioner of Rural Development and Secretary in place of Vipul Mitra, who has been transferred and appointed as development commissioner, Gandhinagar in place Raj Gopal. Sujit Gulati on his repatriation from the Centre has been appointed as Commissioner of Geology and Mining, Gandhinagar relieving A M Tiwari, who was holding additional charge of the post.

Man gets 5 yrs RI for raping minor

Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a man to five years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old minor girl in 2005. Additional sessions judge K U Chandiwal also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Tarachand Nevale (30) or else an additional six months rigorous imprisonment. According to the prosecution, the accused had on June 28, 2005 kidnapped the victim from Shivaji Nagar at Govandi in and taken to a guest house in Mankhurd, where he kept her.....

Husband-wife succumbs to their burn injuries in hospital

Jamnagar, Mar 15 (UNI) A young housewife and her husband, who sustained serious burn injuries due to a stove burst, succumbed to their injuries in a local hospital today. The deceased has been identified as - Laxmiben Arunbhai (27) and Arun Petabhai (30), residing in Motikhokhari village in Jamnagar district. Police said the incident occurred on March four, when the kerosene stove in which Laxmiben was preparing food burst accidentally. Her husband, who rushed to rescue here, was also severely burnt......

HC asks Mah Govt to appoint retired HC judge to head KDMC Committee

Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today directed the Maharashtra government to appoint a retired High Court judge as head of a committee to scrutinise the past records and fix responsibility for rampant illegal constructions that have come up between 1987 and 2004 in the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) area. Assistant Government Pleader Pradip Patil informed the court that the state government had recently spoken to eight retired chief secretaries. But only D K Afzalpurkar has agreed.....
