Fire destroys huts

Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 14 (UNI) Fire destroyed 23 houses, mostly thatched dwellings, in Saradha Colony inhabitated by weaker sections, in the city today.

A spark from a kitchen oven started the fire. Fire engines rushed to the spot and doused the flames. The inhabitants, all daily wagers, were away at work at the time of the mishap.

Moscow, Feb 27 (UNI) Russia's Organised Crime Bureau said they foiled a terrorist attack here when they arrested Farid Magomedov with an explosive device at a bus stop in the north-west of the city on last Thursday. Investigators told Russian news agencies yesterday that Magomedov from Daghestan, a Russian republic in the North Caucasus near Chechnya, was responsible for the production of explosives used in terrorist attacks in the republic. Tigers blame Lanka for risking lives of foreign envoys

Colombo, Feb 27 (UNI) The Tamil Tiger rebels today blamed the government of Sri Lanka for risking the lives of foreign envoys. They expressed "deep regret for the injuries caused to the foreign diplomats" due to their long-range mortar and artillery shelling. "We are shocked by the grave negligence in the security arrangements for the diplomats by the Sri Lankan government that has transported the delegation into the artillery launch-pads amid the prevailing atmosphere of provocative artillery attacks," the Tamilnet website.....

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The maximum temperatures changed little and were normal all over the state. The minimum temperatures fell at a few places over Telangana, at one or two places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and changed little over Rayalaseema, according to weather office here today. The temperatures were below normal at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and normal over Rayalaseema. The lowest minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius was recorded at Hakimpet and Rentachintala. UNI.....

UN envoy to Nepal questions June polls sans consensus

United Nations, Feb 27 (UNI) The UN envoy to Nepal has warned that the scheduled elections in June may have to be postponed unless some form of consensus is reached "very soon" on the electoral arrangements in the Himalayan country.
