Fake MCD office unearthed

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) With the arrest of four people from South West Delhi, police today claimed to have unearthed a fake Municipal Corporation of Delhi office and recovered fake postal stamps, worth Rs 2.8 lakhs, and MCD appointment letters used to cheat victims.

Virender Rai (36), head of the gang, Hari Narain (42), Satpal (30) and Yagdutt Sharma (36) were arrested from Palam Village in South West Delhi on March 10.

Police recovered the fake MCD appointment letters, stamps and letterheads of MCD's Food and Civil supplies department.

All the accused were produced in court where Hari Narain and Yagdutt were sent to judicial custody and Virender and Satpal were sent to 4 days police remand.

Police said Rai used to masquerade as a senior MCD officer and took money from people, promising them jobs in the corporation.

He even paid them salaries for conducting surveys in nearby colonies, before absconding with their money.

Further investigations are in progress.

Quattrocchi's extradition process report before court

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The CBI today presented before a city court the 'status report' on the extradition of Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi. Quattrocchi, presently on bail in Argentina after being detained on February 6, is being sought by the CBI here in connection with the alleged Bofors payoff scam. While presenting the 'report', the central investigation agency explained to the court the reasons for the delay in sending requisite documents pertaining to getting the Italian businessman extradited to India......

Metro Services to be curtailed tomorrow on Holi

New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) The Delhi Metro will run on curtailed services on the occasion of Holi festival tomorrow. Metro services will not be available till 1400 hrs tomorrow on all three lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), i.e, Shahdara to Rithala, VishwaVidyalaya to Central Secretariat and Indraprastha to Dwarka Sector-9, a DMRC spokesperson said. CJI Urged To Boycott SAARC Karachi Law Meet

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) Citing Pakistan's ''contempt for the highest judiciary,'' the Bar Association of India tonight urged an Indian delegation to boycott a South Asian law conference scheduled in Pakistan. ''No meaningful law conference can take place in an atmosphere that shows contempt for the highest judiciary,'' BAI president Fali Sam Nariman said in a statement.
