Doctors' posts to be filled up in MP: Vishnoi

Bhopal, Mar 14 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi today informed the Assembly that district collectors would be authorised to fill up doctors' vacancies in hospitals.

Replying to supplementaries by Mr Ramlakhan Sharma (Communist Party of India-Marxist) during Question Hour, he admitted that several such vacancies existed.

''Besides creating posts, the government is also considering amending the recruitment process,'' the Minister explained.

In reply to another question, Mr Vishnoi said about 600 ampules of antidote were supplied to the local Jayaprakash Hospital as the number of fatal snakebites had increased. ''The figure is about 730 over the past seven months,'' he revealed.

Pointing out that Burhanpur's Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Hospital was not functioning as the municipal corporation had taken possession of the building, the Minister added that an effort was being made to render the hospital operational.

Lankan navy seeks India's permission to interrogate LTTE cadres

Colombo, Feb 22 (UNI) The Sri Lankan Navy has requested Indian authorities to grant them permission to participate in the interrogation process of three suspected LTTE cadres, arrested by the Indian Coast Guard last week off the Indian sea while transporting arms and ammunition to Northern Sri Lanka. ''Through the Ministry of Defence, we have requested the Indian High Commission here to allow us to participate in the interrogation of the three LTTE cadres arrested by the Indian Coast Guard,''.....

Four alligators, one red jungle fowl in SVZP

Tirupati, Mar 14 (UNI) Addition of four alligators, along with a male red jungle fowl to the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park (SVZP) attracted more visitors to the park here. Talking to UNI yesterday, Zoo Curator K Chandrasekar Pillai said four alligators and a red jungle fowl had been brought from Indira Gandhi Zooligical Park in Vishakapatnam on Monday.
