Demand for polytechnics increasing:Minister

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) State Minister for Higher and Technical Education P Venkateshwara Rao today said the demand for polytechnics had been drastically increased with more avenues for employment and opportunities for jobs.

Launching a website at the government polytechnic here, he said as much as one lakh applications were expected this year compared to last year when 78,500 applications were received.

Seats had also been increased this year to 21,000 from last year's 20,000.

He said the facilities could be availed at 1200 centres of APonline and Rajiv Internet Centres across the state where students could obtain instant hall tickets and duplicate hall tickets even on the day of examination .

Director of Technical Education, Mr Rajendra Narendra Nimje, said the date of Common Entrance Examination for Polytechnic(CEEP) was April 22 and commencement of the online applications would start from March 14.

AIMIM member complains on govt hospitals

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) AIMIM MLA Mohd Mustada Khan today complained in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly that government hospitals in the city and the one in Golkonda in particular lacked staff, equipment and medicines. Making a Zero Hour mention, he said women stopped going to the Golkonda Hospital as there was no lady doctor. He alleged even the poor were being asked to buy medicines and added during emergencies, ambulance was not available and when it was, drivers were complaining there.....

US finds fault with Pakistan's deal with pro Taliban leaders

Washington, Feb 28 (UNI) Pakistani government strategy of signing peace deals with pro-Taleban tribal leaders along the Afghan border has backfired, Director of National Intelligence John McConnell said. In testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee yesterday, Mr McConnell said President Pervez Musharraf was trying to balance US security concerns with political ones. King to be removed from Rs 1000 and Rs 500 bills

Kathmandu, Feb 28 (UNI) The Nepal Government will replace King Gyanendra's picture with that of Mount Everest in Rs 1000, 500 and 10 denomination notes. The government has instructed Nepal Rashtra Bank, the central bank, to print notes removing the picture of the King, said Minister for Information and Communication Dilendra Prasad Badu. The government has expressed strong objection over the statement issued by the king on the occasion of the Democracy Day terming it unauthorised, unconstitutional, undemocratic and against.....
