Death toll mounts to seven in house collapse

Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) The death toll rose to seven today when four more bodies of labourers were recovered from the debris of a collapsed underconstruction hotel structure near Royal Palm Pvt Ltd, Goregoan, in western suburbs.

Police said the dead labourers were identified as Babu Thakur Rathod (35-supervisor), Vijay Lakhindar Mandal (30), Laxman Balaram Rathod (35), Anil Kashinath Chavan (18), Chandrakant Gaund (55), Ratan Mandal (27) and Mahiru Kishan Chavan (18).

Vinay Mandal (50), Raju Mandal (24), Sushil Mandal (25), Tapan Shreedhar Mandal (30), Kuthya Chavan and Bhagirathi Harijan (age not known) were injured in the accident.

They were admitted in Holy Spirit, Bhagwati and Kancha hospitals in western suburbs.

The underconstruction structure of the proposed Hotel Villa collapsed around 1730 hours yesterday, killing three labourers and injuring five, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivajirao Bodke told UNI.

Police said the structure collapsed as poor quality of material was used for the construction by the contractor.

A case has been registered against Parvez, Kashid (both site engineers), Hidavat and Sayyed Ejazali (contractors). All the four persons were absconding since yesterday, police added.

Major fire in ink factory at Silvassa, no loss of life

Silvassa, Mar 14 (UNI) A major fire broke out in an ink plant at village Morkal, about 20 km from here, on the Vapi border today. Police said the fire broke out at 1500 hrs in an ink-mixing tank of Micro Ink (earlier Hindustan Ink) presumably due to a short-circuit. Billowing smoke and searing flames were seen soon after the fire outbreak. The blaze has been brought under control by the company's fire-fighting system in association with the Silvass fire.....

Bhuj fishermen protest

Bhuj, Mar 14 (UNI) Over 200 fishermen of the Shekatia village on the seashore off the Gulf of Kutch today held a rally here and submitted a memorandum against the SEZ being built by Adani port. The memorandum was handed over to the Resident Deputy Collector (RDC), who collected it on behalf of Collector Dhanjay Dwivedi. The fishermen, also known as 'pagadia' or those who wade into sea and catch fish on foot, are protesting the blocking of their road.....
