Court begins prosecution in police official murder case

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The City Metropolitan Sessions Court today began prosecution in the sensational murder case of Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Vyas who was murdered 13 years ago at L B Stadium in the city.

The sessions judge directed the main accused, Nayeem, to attend the court after rejecting the petition filed by his counsel that he would not attend the proceedings due to threat to his life from rivals.

Three co-accused in the murder case --N Sheshaiah, Narasamma and T Balanna-- attened the court.

Spanish scientist missing case: Eight people taken into custody

Mangalore, Mar 14 (UNI) Eight people were today taken into custody in connection with the suspected death of a Spanish scientist, reported missing since last few months in Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka. Police said the scientist, Francisco Albert Belil, who had come to Kadirudyavar forest area in Belthangady in June last year for a study on forests, went missing since last few months. His family members in Spain had alerted the Indian Government through the Spanish.....

Woman SI found hanging

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Mar 14 (UNI) A woman Sub-Inspector, attached to the Vridachalam police station, allegedly committed suicide last night. According to police, 32-year-old R Sumathi was found hanging in the police quarters where she was staying. Tension prevailed following the death of the woman police officer as public resorted to a blockade alleging that she was murdered and hanged by the family of another sub-inspector of police Murali, as Sumathi had a quarrel with the Murali's wife last night before.....

Jail mates to have telephone access in Karnataka

Mangalore, Mar 14 (UNI) Jailmates in Karnataka will soon have telephone access to have contact with outside world. To begin with Telephone booths, with STD facility, would be installed in Bangalore Central Jail at a cost of Rs 2.39 lakh. However, the facility comes with strict supervision by the authorities, Additional Director General of Police (Prison) S T Ramesh told newsmen here yesterday. He said that the prisoners, both convicted and undertrials, would be provided with telephone cards to speak.....
