Council adjourned for ten minutes due to absence of ministers

Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) The Government today faced an embarrassing situation as the Legislative Council had to be adjourned on the opening day, right at the beginning, as no Cabinet minister was present in the house.

Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh took the issue very seriously after objection was raised by BJP's Nitin Gadkari and leader of the opposition Pandurang Phundkar.

Mr Deshmukh immediately adjourned the house for ten minutes and later when the house assembled he reprimanded the government for absence of the ministers.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister R R Patil offered his regrets on the matter.

Security alert on Islamic separatist anniversary

Maharashtra opposition disrupts Governor speech at budget session

Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) The budget session of Maharashtra Legislature got underway here today on a stormy note with opposition Shiv Sena-BJP disrupting Governor S M Krishna's address to the joint session of both houses. Mr Krishna's speech was inaudible for the first ten minutes as the opposition members including senior leaders were on their feet and shouted slogans demanding the Governor make his speech in Marathi as they could not hear the Marathi translation from the head phone given to.....

SS and HS schools to come under SSA

Itanagar, Mar 14 (UNI) All secondary and higher secondary schools in Arunachal Pradesh will be included in the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) from the next academic session. State education minister Chowna Mein announced this while inaugurating a primary school at Taraso in Papum Pare district yesterday, sources said.
