Aulakh is Punjab DGP

Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) The Punjab Government today appointed N P S Aulakh, a 1972 batch officer of the Punjab cadre as state Director General of Police (DGP), an official release here stated.

Mr Aulakh on return from central deputation will succeed Mr R S Gill, who has been posted as DGP-cum-Director General of the Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur against a vacant post.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal after assuming charge on March two had announced the appointment of Mr Aulakh to the top police post. However his formal appointment was cleared by the state governmemt today.

Mr Gill had been appointed state DGP during the election campaign in place of Mr S S Virk, who was removed from the post by the Election Commission following certain complaints against him by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).

Opposition stages walkout over Abkari policy

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 14 (UNI) The Congress-led Opposition staged a walkout in the Kerala Assembly today after Speaker K Radhakrishnan refused leave for an adjournment motion on the Abkari policy of the government. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy sought a thorough discussion on the policy in the context of ''substantial changes'' brought in by the government making the 12-year-old arrack ban ineffective. Opposing the demand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar said there was no need for a discussion on the issue.....

333 Keralites have Pak citizenship

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 14 (UNI) Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today informed the Assembly that 333 Keralites, who had Pakistani citizenship were residing in the state. In a written reply, he said Malayalees with Bangladesh citizenship were also residing in the state. Mr Balakrishnan said the government had also noticed that Bangladesh citizens were migrating illegally to Kearla. The government had issued necessary orders for a departmental inquiry into the issue, he added. UNI.....

Oppn walkout in protest against 'summoning assembly without reason'

Bangalore, Mar 14 (UNI) Janata Dal (United) leader J C Madhuswamy and Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Party leader Vatal Nagaraj today staged a walkout in the Karnataka Assembly alleging that the government was misusing the office of the Speaker and pressurised him to convene the House two days in advance without any specific reason. Raising the issue after the House assembled, the members questioned the reasons behind advancing the Budget Session by two days and said even the Speaker was kept.....
