AR shot dead PLA ultra

Shillong, Mar 14 (UNI) 34 Assam Rifles(AR) troops have shot dead a 'Sergeant Major' of People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Manipur's Waithou area recently, AR sources said here today.

The militant was killed in a shoot out with a column of security forces, a AR press release stated.

One 9 mm Automatic Pistol with 03 live rounds, three fired cases, mobile phones and a motorcycle was recovered by Lilong Police from the encounter site.

The cadre was reportedly involved in several attacks against SF personnel in Jiribam including an ambush in 1993 that killed about four SF personnel, the statement added.

Besides, the cadre had also killed four jawans of Gorkha Rifles in 2002 in Jiribam, an ambush near Khoibu in 2006 and attacked the BSF Post at Heirok last year.

Punjab govt, Leyland join hands for driving school

Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) Punjab government and Ashok Leyland will join hands to set-up a training school for drivers in the border state. The school will be located on a 22-acre plot in Kapurthala district. Leyland which has a similar school in Tamil nadu has approved the site. Revealing this here today, Transport Minister Mohan Lal said that an MoU between the state government and Leyland will be signed after the Cabinet accords its approval for the school. ITC to pump in Rs 150cr for foray into snacks business

BPCL aqcuires 25 pc in 2 North Sea blocks

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) today announced it will acquire a 25 per cent interest in two blocks in the North Sea, UK. The company has signed a farm-in agreement for a stake in blocks 48/1b and 48/2c. Post the agreement, all the other consortium partners -- Encore (NNS) Ltd and Encore Petroleum Ltd, Operator NWE Southern Cross (UK) Pty Ltd and Tata Petrodyne Ltd -- will own 25 per cent each in the blocks......
