AR killed 117 militants during last 3 years

Imphal, Mar 14 (UNI) The Assam Rifles (AR) in Manipur have killed 117 militants in the last three years and maintained a peaceful atmosphere in the state, AR PRO said here today.

The IG AR (South) formed on March 15, 2004 to exercise operational control and administer the states AR forces, including four Sector HQs and 20 battalions, would complete its three years tomorrow.

The PRO said during the three years 117 militants were shot dead, 689 nabbed, 23 militants surrendered.

He said the IG AR (south) have taken up various developmental works and checked various anti-social elements.

About 41 tonnes of cantraband opium, 217 truck loads of timber and 61 tonnes of liquor were seized by the troops, he added.

The IGAR(S) had earned 291 awards for 100 Officers, 47 JCOs and six civilian staff so far.

Militants kill MURDERER

Imphal, Mar 14 (UNI) Revolutionary People's Front Militants killed a man allegedly involved in the murder of an eight-year-old child. The boy, Laishram Chinglenkhomba, was found killed with his throat slit at Pishum Chinga Macha, here on Monday last by police. The RPF said it ''enquired'' into the incident and found that Mayengbam Bungthoi of Khagempalli Panthak, Imphal, was allegedly involved in the killing of the boy. US for cooperation with Russia on uranium enrichment: Sell

Moscow, Mar 14 (UNI) US-Russia cooperation on setting up international uranium enrichment centres would help promote the safe and secure use of civilian nuclear energy, visiting US Deputy Secretary of Energy, Clay Sell said here today. Mr Sell said if Russia and the United States could convince other countries about this initiative, based on commercially attractive conditions, then it would be possible to have a situation that would ensure the safe and secure use of civilian nuclear energy.
