Air traffic to Kashmir resumes after two days

Srinagar, Mar 14 (UNI) Air traffic in Kashmir resumed today after remaining suspended for two days following heavy snowfall.

All the flights resumed operation today, Manager, Srinagar, airport told UNI.

He said the air traffic was resumed after the snow was cleared from the runway.

About a dozen flights are operating between Srinagar-Jammu and Delhi daily. However, due to snowfall and poor visibility all the flights were cancelled on March 12 and yesterday.

However, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway is already closed for traffic since March 10 due to heavy snowfall, landslides and shooting of stones at Penthal and about two to three feet of snowfall between Qazigund to Banihal.

Health centre medicines thrown in gutter

Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) Haryana Health Minister Kartar Devi today told the state assembly that medicines at a Primary Health Centre in Mahendragarh district were thrown in a river and a gutter by doctors and officials. The incident occurred at Nangal Chowdhary village of the district and action had been initiated against a Senior Medical Officer, a Medical Officer, a pharmacist and a multi-purpose health worker for alleged dereliction of duty, she said in a written reply during the Question Hour......

People in Kashmir face acute shortage of essentials

Srinagar, Mar 14 (UNI) Facing acute shortage of essentials due to closure of Srinagar-Jammu national highway, people in Kashmir have once again resorted to vegetables and dried fish. A majority of shops, selling meat, vegetables, eggs, chicken and other eatables in the valley, including Srinagar city, are closed. With no alternative left, a large number of people were seen purchasing dried vegetables and fish from the market in the city. People in the Kashmir valley, are generally used to dry.....

Punjab wants simple security clearance procedure on Pak-buses

Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) The Punjab government has asked the Union Home Ministry to ease the visa and security check clearance that Indian passengers travelling to Pakistan by road through the Wagah check post have to undergo. ''Perhaps if the visa and security procedures are simplified, the occupancy rate on board the Amritsar-Lahore and Amritsar-Nankana Sahib buses could increase'', state Transport Minister Mohan Lal said while talking to reporters here today.
