7 criminals sentenced for life

Patna, Mar 14 (UNI) A sessions court here today awarded life imprisonment to seven persons in a case of rape committed during dacoity.

The additional district and sessions judge Rampravesh Sharma found Ramprakash Yadav, Vijay Kumar Pandey, Girijesh Yadav, Arjun Kumar, Bhushan Yadav, Ravi Kumar and Ashok Yadav guilty of committing rape during a dacoity.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 7,000 on each convict. The amount of fine recovered a from the convicts would be paid to the rape victim, the judgement said.

According to the charges, the convicts had committed a dacoity in the house of Ambika Prasad Sinha, a resident of Kumharar Mohalla under Agamkuan police station area of the state capital and committed rape upon a female member of the house when she protested the dacoits on March 24, 1989.

All the six convicts are also facing trial in the much-hyped murder case of former DIG of police Anil Kumar Singh. Step up vigil to curb arms smuggling to Lanka: CPI(M)

Illegal use of beacon lights: Case posted to May 2

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today fixed May 2 as the date of hearing of a writ petition filed against the unauthorised use of beacon lights in Uttar Pradesh. Justices Devi Devi Prasad Singh and J M Paliwal passed this order on a writ petition filed by Sudarsh Awasthi.
