15 candidates fighting Palamu bypoll

Daltongunj, Mar 14 (UNI) With the withdrawal of three candidates, including JD(U)'s Jitendra Kumar, altogether 15 aspirants are in the fray for the March 29 byelection to Palamu Parliamentary seat.

District Electoral Officer Nagendra Prasad Singh here said besides the JD(U) candidate, others, who withdrew were Devmania Devi and Mithilesh Paswan (both Independents).

Earlier, nominations of Lalan Bhuiyan (Samata Party), Parasnath Manjhi of the Manav Mukti Morcha and Brahmdeo Ram (Independent) were cancelled.

Counting would be held on April one.

Prominent among those in the fray are Jawahar Paswan (BJP), Ghuran Ram (RJD) and JVM(D)'s Prabhat Bhuiyan.

The byelection was necessitated after Manoj Bhuiyan (RJD) lost his Lok Sabha seat following the cash-for-query scam.

Constable killed on poll duty

Gwalior, Mar 7 (UNI) A constable was today gunned down by his inebriated colleague while on election duty at Datia district's Softa village that falls within Gwalior parliamentary constituency where polling is scheduled tomorrow, the police said. Datia's Superintendent of Police M K Mudgal suspended Head Constable Kedar Singh Kushwaha in this connection. The accused Suresh Kushwaha was arrested for murdering Constable Radhelal Jatav and his service rifle seized. Head Constable Kedar and Suresh were drinking this evening at the house.....

Special casual leave for LC polls on Mar 17

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government has directed the state authorities to grant a day's special casual leave to their employees who were registered voters in Teachers and Graduates Constituencies to enable them to exercise franchise in the State Legisaltive Council on March 17. Keeping in view of the suggestion of the Election Commission, the goverrnment had taken the decision to sanction special causal leave, according to an official release here today. UNI.....

Bhopal, Mar 7 (UNI) Ujjain's Vikram University has had a headstart in the race for new types of courses as it boasts of a full-fledged Karmkand Department for teaching the nuances of Hindu rituals and chanting hymns.
