Two witnesses file intervention application in Khwaja Yunus case

Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) In a new twist to the Sayyad Khwaja Yunus case, an accused in the Ghatkopar BEST bomb blasts case of 2002, two State CID witnesses today filed intervention applications in the Bombay High Court, alleging they were offered Rs five lakh each and jobs in the Gulf by State CID officer Jafferbhai and made to talk to Director General of Police Dr P S Pasricha, who in turn asked them to support Jafferbhai.

Abdul Karim Khan and Ayaz Ahmed, both residing in Mumbai, in their application said: ''A person named Wahid Ali had taken both of them to Pune and introduced them to Jafferbhai. There they were told they were to give statements before the High Court that they had witnessed the alleged killing and disposal of an innocent person's body at the hands of certain police officials.'' The witnesses also alleged that Jafferbhai assured nothing would happen to them as the move was supported by highly placed police officials.

PHDCCI opposes hike in minimum wages in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 2 (UNI) Opposing the recent announcement of a hike in minimum wages in Haryana, PHDCCI Secretary General Krishan Kalra today urged the state government to withdraw the proposal. Addressing a press conference here, Mr Kalra appealed to Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for adopting a practical approach that ''takes care of the paying capacity of the smallest employer in industry and small business enterprises.'' Haryana, he said, should fix minimum wages broadly in tune with the current wages.....

Probe into LPG stove deal

Raipur, Mar 2 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Prem Prakash Pandey today referred to the Questions and Reference Committee an inquiry into alleged irregularities in purchase of LPG gas stoves under the mid-day meal programme. The Speaker's direction came after School Education Minister Megharam Sahu failed to give a satisfactory reply to the questions of Mr Devji Bhai Patel (BJP) and Mr Mohammad Akbar (Congress) regarding the conditions laid down in the tender. Life imprisonment to six convicts in Municipal chairman murder case

Barasat, Mar 13 (UNI) The Additional District and Sessions Judge has awarded life imprisonment to six people in connection with the Dum Dum Municipality chairman murder case. Additional District and Sessions judge Sunil Chandra Barai, convicted six of the 12 accused in the Sailen Das murder cases yesterday. He found them guilty under Sections 120B, 302/120B IPC and awarded life imprisonment and fined Rs 2000 each. Earlier, the judge heard all the six convicts, including the prime accused, a former Dum.....
