Two guards suspended in lion poaching incident

Junagadh, Mar 13 (UNI) Two guards have been suspended for dereliction of duty that led to the death of two lionesses and a cub in Gir forest on March 1.

Beat Guard G J Maiyara and Naka Guard S V Goswami were suspended yesterday by the forest department following a preliminary investigation into the incident, Assistant Conservator of Forest Bhaskar Shukla here today said.

During investigations, it was found that Naka Guard Goswami had not made entries of vehicles entering the forest area for the past one month.

Mumbai, Mar 13 (UNI) Three labourers were killed and five others injured when an underconstruction row house collapsed near Royal Palm at Goregaon here this evening. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivajirao Bodke told UNI that clearing of the debris was still under progress. Gujarat to increase land under irrigation

Gandhinagar, Mar 13 (UNI) The Gujarat Government has chalked up plans to increase the land under irrigation which is expected to boost agricultural production by Rs 500 crore, Water Resources Minister Narottam Patel told the Legislative Assembly today. Barring South Gujarat, around 40,000 hectares of land are irrigated elsewhere in the state during the summer, the Minister said, adding that in the current year, schemes have been drawn to irrigate 150,000 hectares. Panaji, Mar 13 (UNI) Goa Government has constituted a ''Tribal Development Council'' under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane for monitoring the Tribal Sub-Plan drafted recently for the welfare and development of tribal areas.
