Top Maoist leader arrested in AP

Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 13 (UNI) Police today arrested a top CPI (Maoist) Leader near the Komarti Village of Narasannapet Mandal of the district today.

Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested CPI (Maoist) Central Comittee Member G Prasad when he came to the village to meet his family members and relatives.

He was produced before KotiBommali Court immediately. The Maoist leader was arrested in connection with a pending case registered against him 1997 in which a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him, the police said.

School drop out rate declines: Purandeswari

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Union Human Resources Development Ministry today said the dropout rate of children in schools has come down by 15 per cent due to several new initiatives launched by the government. ''Figures show that there is a general downward trend in dropout rates in primary, middle and secondary level,'' Minister of State in the Ministry D Purandeswari told the Lok Sabha. Replying to questions, she said the access of girls to elementary schooling was being enhanced.....

Preliminary survey for new airport in Pune completed

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The government will develop a new airport in Pune as the existing airport was unable to meet the growing traffic. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Civil Aviation Praful Patel said the Pune airport belongs to the Ministry of Defence where the Airports Authority of India (AAI) maintains a civil enclave to handle civil aircraft operations. Although the existing terminal had been expanded and modified, the facilities available.....

Govt to commemorate 1857 Uprising in a befitting manner

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The government has constituted a 71-member National Committee, headed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to commemorate the 150th year of First War of Independence, 1857, the Rajya Sabha was informed today. In a written reply, Culture and Tourism Minister Ambika Soni said the National Committee would chalk out the programmes for commemorating the event in a befitting manner.
