TDP members come to House with garlands of turmeric

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) TDP MLAs today came to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly with garlands of turmeric and wearing green shawls to highlight the problems of the turmeric farmers, who they said were not getting Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crop.

Soon after the House met for the day, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy announced that he was disallowing the adjournment motions on the MSP for turmeric by TDP and CPI.

He said he was also disallowing adjournment motions of the TRS and CPI(M) on supply of Singur water to Medak district, of BJP on corruption, of Janata Party on supply of drinking water to Metpalli constituency and of BSP on non-ST candidates obtaining reservations on fake caste tickets.

The TDP members, displaying their garlands, urged the government to rescue turmeric farmers through market intervention.

Demanding immediate debate on supply of water from Singur to Medak, some CPI(M) members disrupted the proceedings of the House for a while by sitting in the well of the House.

The Speaker convinced the members saying that both the turmeric and the Singur issues could be debated during the day, as there would be debate on the demands of agriculture and irrigation.
