State govt proposes to set up rubber park

Agartala, Mar 13 (UNI) Tripura government will be setting up a rubber park in the Budhjungnagar industrial centre in west district.

The proposed rubber park, to be set up with help from the Rubber Board, would be built on a 50-acre land at a cost of Rs seven crore, State Industry Minister Tapan Chakrborty informed the state assembly yesterday.

He said that in the proposed rubber park, there will be a laboratory, an office, a warehouse and a testing and certificitation standard design tool room for the rubber-based industries.

The Dharampal Satyapal group of industries had set up a rubber-based industry at Bodhjungnagar, about 15 km from here, in September last year, with an investment of Rs 85 crore.

The factory's production capacity per annum is 5,000 m and estimated annual turnover is 56 crore, Mr Chakraborty said.

The industry minister also said that the state-owned Tripura Forest Development Production Corporation Limited will also be setting up a rubber-based industry. A timber treatment plant, latex centrifusing and sap mill has already been set up here.

Rubber cultivation in the state during 2005-2006 produced 18,455 m of rubber with an annual turnover of Rs 114 crores, the minister informed.

Two persons killed by extremists under Longtharai Valley PS

Agartala, Mar 4 (UNI) A group of armed National Liberation Front of Tripura (BM) extremists raided Joychandra village and killed two villagers. The extremists shot and killed Tapan Kumar Tripura and Tirendra Tripura at Joychandra, about 14 km south-west from here, yesterday. It is alleged that about 4-5 months back, Tirendra Tripura was brought to Longtharai Valley police station for interrogation as he was suspected to be involved in NLFT activities, police sources said. Indian cellphone manaufacturing unit soon

Kozhikode, Mar 13 (UNI) Hongkong based-Digital Information Tehnology Studies Ltd (DITS), promoted by a Non-Resident Indian, proposes to set up a cellphone manufacturing unit, first of its kind in the country, very soon. Three persons kidnapped at gunpoint near Gandacherra PS

Agartala, Mar 4 (UNI) A group of armed extremists kidnapped two labourers and a truck driver at gunpoint on Jagabandhu Para main road, near Gandacherra police station last night. At about 2200 hours, the extremists kidnapped the labourers Jiban Orao (23) and Bijay Orao (22), both from Ranchi, and the driver Pradip Debnath (20) of Kamalapur.
