Speaker distributes laptop to 60 legislators

Shillong, Mar 13 (UNI) Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Martin M Danggo has distributed laptops to 60 legislators of the state.

Mr Danggo said the initiative was taken so that the legislators would not lag behind in terms of computer literacy.

Information Technology Minister Robert Garnet Lyngdoh, elated by Mr Danggo's initiative, said, ''Our Speaker is making serious efforts to make the legislators acquainted with the latest Information Technology.'' He said the legislators should also permeate their experience in this field to their constituencies.

The total cost of the laptops, distriduted yesterday along with the printer and charger, came around Rs one crore.

Rally to protest boy's killing

Imphal, March 13 (UNI) A rally was taken out here today to protest the killing of an eight-year-old boy yesterday. The eight-year-old boy was identified as Chinglenkhomba. He was found murdered last evening at Pishum Chinga Macha. Police said no one was arrested so far. A gold ring, worn by the boy, was missing and he bore wound marks on his neck the police said. MLA L Jayenta and others have strongly condemned the killing and termed it barbaric......

Punjab govt includes landless families in health care scheme

Chandigarh, Mar 12 (UNI) The scope of the Sanjivni Health Care Scheme, has been enlarged by the Punjab government to include landless families from the next financial year. This scheme which was launched last year was limited to provide health insurance cover to members of the cooperative societies and so far it had benefited over 18,500 patients with a pay out of over Rs 35 crore last year. Moderate rains in Bihar

Patna, Mar 13 (UNI) Light to moderate rains lashed Bihar, coupled with cold westerly winds, since yesterday, which led to a sharp drop in maximum temperature in Patna and other parts of the state. Met office sources said with the onset of spring, people were ready to bid adieu to winter but the fresh spell of cold forced them to take out the woollen clothes.
