SMC resumes bus service to attract tourists

Surat, Mar 13 (UNI) In a bid to attract more tourists to the rich cultural heritage of Surat city, Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to resume its bus service for city site-seeing.

The service was formally inaugurated here yesterday by Mayor Kanubhai Mavani and a student group from the Sharadha Yatan School in the city took a ride on it.

''The colourful and luxuriously designed bus named 'Surat Darshan' will conduct service from the 'maidan' in front of the 16th century Surat Castle, every Saturday and Sunday,'' SMC Commissioner Pankaj Joshi said.

The bus will take the tourists to the Sardar Patel Museum, Planetarium in Chowk Bazaar, SMC head quarters, Chintamani Jain Derasar, Mirzan Shami Mausoleum, all in Mugalsarai, Dutch and Armenian Cemeteries in Katargam, Kantareshwar Mahadev Temple, Sarthana Nature Park, Subhash Chandra Bose Lake in Bhora Bhagal, Merulakshmi Yantra Mandir in Rander Talwadi, Swaminarayan Temple in Adajan, Narmad Library in Ghod Dod Road, Indoor Stadium, Gaurav Path and Dumas.

The service would begin on 0930 hrs on the said days. The fare has been fixed at Rs 20 for tourists upto age 12 and Rs 40 for those above 12, sources said.

Seven arrested for ransacking marriage hall

Akola, Mar 13 (UNI) Seven persons have been arrested for ransacking a marriage hall and injuring five people here. Police said some youths entered the Zulelal Dharmashala in Sindhi Khadan area of the city yesterday where the marriage ceremony between Patil-Ghatwal families was going on. Following a quarrel with the band party, the group damaged the wash basins, tube-lights and furniture in the hall. The bride-groom Mr Patil and his family, residents of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, had come to marry.....

11 kids take ill after consuming mid-day meal

Akola, Mar 13 (UNI) 11 kids have taken ill due to food poisoning after consuming 'khichadi' at Hatna village in Manora tehsil in the adjoining Washim district. Children of age group 2-3 years, began vomiting after consuming the 'khichadi' yesterday, which was being provided by the government under the 'mid-day meal' programme to them. They were rushed to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) of the village, which referred them to the General Hospital here. Four of the 11 kids are.....

IT collection up 30 per cent in Pune circle: IT Chief Commissioner

Pune, Mar 13 (UNI) Income Tax (IT) Chief Commissioner Santosh Dutta today said collections were up by 30 per cent in Corporate Tax and 35 per cent in Income Tax, totalling an average of 33 per cent. He said the Pune Centre had achieved its target for the first time and total of 21,99,868 returns were filed by Feburary 28.
