SCBA condemns scaking of Iftikhar Chaudhary

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) today passed a resolution expressing its ''dismay and anguish'' at the treatment meted out to Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhary, who has been made disfunctional and has reportedly been put under house arrest by Pakistani authorities.

SCBA Executive Committee in its resolution strongly condemned the atrocities of the police and high handedness of security forces against the lawyers of Pakistan, who were holding a peaceful agitation in protest against the suspension of the Chief Justice.

The SCBA expressed total solidarity with the legal fraternity of Pakistan in their struggle to restore rule of law and ensure independence of the judiciary, the main pillars in any democracy of the world.

The association has requested all the democratic forces in the world to intervene to resolve the present crisis in Pakistan.

The SCBA has also requested all the bar associations in the country to pass a similar resolution. A copy of the resolution has been forwarded to Chairman of the Bar Council of Pakistan and to President of Supreme Court Bar Association, Islamabad.

The Chief Justice of Pakistan was placed under suspension by Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

BRO personnel saves two in HP

HC asks DTC to submit report on modernisation of bus shelters

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today asked the Delhi Transport Corporation(DTC) to explain the details about the expenditure of Rs 85 crore collected from 4500 privates buses to modernise the public bus shelters in the Capital. A division Bench of Justices Swatanter Kumar and H R Malhotra asked the DTC to file an affidavit by Friday stating the expenditure of the money to improve the bus stops. Cold wave in HP despite clear sky
