SAIL's mines produce record raw materials

Kolkata, Mar 13 (UNI) Mines of Raw Materials Division (RMD) of SAIL created a record of sorts, producing about 15.325 million tonne of iron ore from April, 2006 to February, 2007.

Mines at Kiriburu, Meghanatuburu, Bolani, Manoharpur (Chiria), Barsua and Kalta despatched some 14.65 million tonne of iron ore, which also happened to be the best ever despatch from RMD mines, a SAIL release today said.

During the fiscal, the RMD constructed arterial roads in five villages and instailed solar street lights in the remote villages near Chiria mines, where electricity was a distant dream.

Plans were on the anvil to provide there another 100 solar lights for making conducive atmosphere for labour force.

Indian cellphone manaufacturing unit soon

Kozhikode, Mar 13 (UNI) Hongkong based-Digital Information Tehnology Studies Ltd (DITS), promoted by a Non-Resident Indian, proposes to set up a cellphone manufacturing unit, first of its kind in the country, very soon. As a preliminary step to implement the estimated Rs 115 million project, a separate outfit Information Technology Studies (India) Private Limited has already been incorporated, DITS chairman Prateesh V K told reporters here last night. Three persons kidnapped at gunpoint near Gandacherra PS

Agartala, Mar 4 (UNI) A group of armed extremists kidnapped two labourers and a truck driver at gunpoint on Jagabandhu Para main road, near Gandacherra police station last night. At about 2200 hours, the extremists kidnapped the labourers Jiban Orao (23) and Bijay Orao (22), both from Ranchi, and the driver Pradip Debnath (20) of Kamalapur. VSP denies reports of major fire in company premises

Visakhapatnam, Mar 13 (UNI) The Visakhazpatnam Steel Plant (VSP) today denied reports of a major fire at its premises yesterday and said it was a distortion of facts. The VSP officials, in a release here today said two conveyer belts had partially burnt on account of discharge of hot sinter that was wrongly quoted as a fire mishap.
