Rio congratulates Lapang; Nagaland by-poll winners

Kohima, Mar 13: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has congratulated his Meghalaya counterpart DD Lapang after being elected as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

In a message the chief minister said that Mr Lapang, who had assumed office recently, will be able to bring deveopment in Meghalaya.

He also congratulated Nagaland Democratic Front(NPF) candidate Atomi Zhimomi from Dimapur and Congress candidate Kejong Chang from Tuensang for their victory in the March 8 by-election, declared yesterday.

He hoped that both the newly elected members of the House would immensely contribute to the development of the people here.

12-hour National Highways bandh in Nagaland

Kohima, Jan 06: The youth wings of three non-Congress parties in Nagaland have called for a 12-hour bandh on National Highway 39 and 61, passing through the state, on January eight to protest the imposition of President's Rule. Polling begins in Nagaland amid tight security

Kohima, Mar 5: Polling for the single-phase of Nagaland Assembly elections began today amidst tight security. About 1.3 million voters are expected to decide the fate of 218 candidates, including four women, contesting 60 Assembly seats. The main contest is between the Nagaland People's Front (NPF) and the Congress. While the NPF is contesting 56 seats, the Congress is contesting all the 60 seats.
