Residents hold fast on land acquisition for SEZ

Kancheepuram, Mar 13 (UNI) Residents of Oragadum today observed a day's fast to condemn the government's move to acquire land for automobile special economic zone (SEZ) to be established at the SIPCOT Industrial estate.

As many as 1,000 people, including 300 women, participated in the agitation organised at the Oragadum-Chennakuppan Junction. Traders closed shop to express solidarity with the agitationists.

According to the residents, the authorities are in the process of acquiring 2,500 acre of land for the project and letters in this regard had already been sent to them.

The locals had not only conducted protests but also petitioned the District Collector and the Chief Minister. A case against the land acquisition was also pending in Madras High Court.

Pakistan to import electricity from Iran

Islamabad, Feb 28 (UNI) Pakistan plans to import 500 MW electricity from Iran in view of the current power deficit and for future requirements of the deep sea port at Gwadar. Loan to physically challenged under self-employment scheme

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Mar 13 (UNI) Kancheepuram District administration would sanction a maximum loan of Rs ten lakh at a nominal interest rate to the physically challenged people under the self-employment scheme, according to District Collector Pradeep Yadav. Bandh affects life in Nepal

Kathmandu Feb 28 (UNI) Normal life was affected throughout Nepal today due to nationwide bandh called by the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NFIN).
