Rape victim attempts suicide

Sheopur, MP, Mar 13 (UNI) A Xth standard girl, who was raped by two men on gunpoint while she was returning after giving her first examination paper, today sustained severe burn injuries when she set herself on fire, police said.

The victim, who hailed from Hirapur village, was returning along with a family member on a two-wheeler when two people stopped them near Chakbamudia village.

Traumatised with the incident, the girl set herself on fire. She sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and was admitted to hospital.

A case had been registered against two accused -- Shakeel Khan and Balwant.

Two school girls drowned in sewage canal

Bangalore, Feb 25 (UNI) The bodies of two eight-year-old girl students, who were missing from School since yesterday, were found floating in a sewage canal behind their school in the city today. Kengeri police said that the two students of Govt. Primary School in Bhuvaneshwari Nagar did not return home yesterday. It was suspected that they might have slipped and drowned. CHESCOM Assistant Engineer caught redhanded while accepting bribe

Madikeri, Mar 13 (UNI) A CHESCOM Assistant Engineer was caught red handed by Lokayukta sleuths while accepting a bribe for showing official favour. Lokayukta sources said Srinivas was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 as a bribe to install transformer from Capt. Madappa of Hulugunda near Siddapur yesterday. Capt Madappa had applied for regularisation of 20 H.P. motor to draw water from Cauvery River. He had paid Rs 28,000 fee and deposit to the Electricity Department. But Srinivas was demanding Rs.....
