Punjab girl deported by Thai govt; arrested

Kolkata, Mar 12 (UNI) Twenty-four year old Rajbir Kaur from Punjab was arrested at the NSCBI airport here tonight after being deported by the Thai authorities.

She arrived on the evening flight from Bangkok tonight and the immigration officials arrested her here.

The officials here said that the Thai authorities had charged her with carrying false travel documents.

The girl claimed that when she left India on January 27 last she had the original passport, but later she tried to fudge one Baddip Kaur's passport to help her secure a job.

But it was soon identified and she was deported.

Sentence in St Stephen's college girl murder case on Mar 15

New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) A fast track court in the city today fixed March 15 for pronouncing the quantum of punishment in a case in which a girl from capital's prestigious St Stephen's college was murdered by a tutor in April 1999. Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar fixed March 15 for pronouncing the sentence in the seven-year-old case, after arguments over quantum of punishment ended today. Terming the murder as 'gruesome', the prosecution described the death as an exemplary punishment.....

Make plea bargaining a success: Justice Singh

Indore, Mar 12 (UNI) Describing justice as a commitment, Supreme Court Justice B P Singh has said the responsibility of making the plea bargaining system a success, rested on judges. ''Plea bargaining will expedite disposal of minor criminal cases. Lok Adalats have helped bring down the number of pending civil cases.
