Planning Committee elections on April 7

Hyderabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Government today announced the programme for conducting of elections to the members of the District Planning Committees.

As per schedule, the polling and counting of votes, and declaration of results would be held on April 7, Principal Secretary to the State Government M Samuel said here.

He said publication of election notice would be issued by the Election Officer on March 16. The final list of voters would be released on March 28 and filing of nominations by March 29. The withdrawal of nominations would conduct on April 3 and the election on April 7, he added.

15 candidates fighting Palamu bypoll

Daltongunj, Mar 14 (UNI) With the withdrawal of three candidates, including JD(U)'s Jitendra Kumar, altogether 15 aspirants are in the fray for the March 29 byelection to Palamu Parliamentary seat. District Electoral Officer Nagendra Prasad Singh here said besides the JD(U) candidate, others, who withdrew were Devmania Devi and Mithilesh Paswan (both Independents). Earlier, nominations of Lalan Bhuiyan (Samata Party), Parasnath Manjhi of the Manav Mukti Morcha and Brahmdeo Ram (Independent) were cancelled. Counting would be held on April one. Prominent.....

Badal thanks voters of Beas

Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today thanked the people of Beas constituency for the victory of Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Manjinder Singh Kang in the Assembly elections. Mr Kang defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate Jasbir Singh Gill(Dimpa) by a margin of 4,183 votes in a 12-cornered contest. Expressing gratitude to the people of Punjab in general and Beas constituency in particular for reposing full faith and confidence in policies and programmes of Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP.....

'Dead man' returns to stop cremation

Raipur, Mar 7 (UNI) It was a mixture of shock and awe for a family that was accosted by its member who had been given up for dead and ''taken'' for cremation. A strange sequence of events began yesterday after the police fished out a body floating in the local Buda Talab, the Chhattisgarh capital's largest reservoir. During an inquiry, a few persons identified the corpse as Tikrapara-resident Deepak Bhattacharya whose brother-in-law Kalyan and neighbours confirmed it. The family was informed.....
