Nine killed in lightning strike

Rewa, MP, Mar 13 (UNI) Nine people, including two women and three children of a family, were killed after lightning struck them in separate incidents in the past 24 hours in Rewa district, police said today.

Sudhni (30), Munnibai (35), Nirmala Bai (12), Radha (10) and Chameli (6) took shelter under a tree at Dubi village, 70 km from district headquarters, while returning from a 'Kanya Bhoj' programme when the incident occurred.

Devkinandan (30), Kalbasia Yadav (35) and Chhote Tiwari died after being struck by lightning while working at their farms in Gadhva, Gedurhat and Mangava villages respectively.

Five-year-old Monu was also killed in a similar incident.

Rainfall and hailstorm lashed various parts of Rewa and Satna districts yesterday causing great damage to crops, especially wheat.

The CGCRI has developed the technology to manufacture hydroxyapatite-based integrated orbital implants, which were so far available in the US for around 800.....

Geelani reapplies for fresh passport

Sriangar, Mar 8 (UNI) Ailing Syed Ali Shah Geelani, chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) has applied afresh for a passport to go abroad for specialised treatment. Besides Mr Geelani, his wife and son Naseem have also applied for the passport, a spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar told UNI. UP firm on polio vaccine cold chain

Lucknow, Mar 8 (UNI) learning from past pulse polio campaigns, Uttar Pradesh has constituted a team of four divisional coordinators to ensure, the vital cold chain of the polio vaccines is maintained in subsequent immunisation drives.
