NCP wins majority in ZP and Panchayat Samitis in the district

Pune, Mar 13 (UNI) The NCP emerged a clear winner, capturing 45 of the 75 seats in Zilla Parishad and 85 seats of the 150 Panchayat Samiti elections, which were held on March 11.

District Collectorate sources gave the final tally for the Zilla Parishad and the Panchayat Samitis as follows : NCP 45, Congress 13, BJP 2, Shiv Sena 6, Janata Dal 2, Independents and Others 7. Of the seven independents , five are rebel NCP candidates and are expected to support the parent party taking their strength to 50 in the ZP.

In the Panchayat Samitis, the NCP won 85 seats of the 150 seats, followed by Congress 30, BJP 8, Shiv Sena 14, Bahujan Samaj Party 4, Independent and others 9.

Thirty-four locals converted into 12-coaches from Nine

Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) The Western Railway (WR) authorities today upgraded thirtyfour 9-coach local trains into 12-car ones, increasing number of 12-coach services from 474 to 511. The WR spokesperson Bhagwat Dahisarkar said here today that 34 local trains were converted into 12-coach trains from Nine-cars. Among these, 30 locals will be terminated or originated from Borivali station and four originating from Andheri railway station. Eight of these 12-coach trains will run during peak hours (0830 hours to 1130 hours.....

Four IAS officers transferred in Gujarat

Gandhinagar, Mar 14 (UNI) R M Patel, IAS, Principal Secretary, Gujarat government, tourism, pilgrimage development and devasthan management, Industries and mines department, has been transferred and appointed as Principal secretary, Social Justice&empowerment department relieving R S Saxena, IAS, of additional charge of the post. Atanu Chakraborty has been appointed as secretary in place of R M Patel. Mr Chakroborty was earlier appointed as Joint Managing Director Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation on March 3, 2007, which has been cancelled. Raj Gopal, development.....

Over 1 cr tourists visited Gujarat last year

March 14 (UNI) Over one crore domestic and international tourists visited Gujarat during the past one year, according to a state tourism department release here today. The Gujarat Government had observed 2006 as Tourism Year and over 1.20 crore tourists had visited the state last year. The number of tourists to the state in the previous year was a little over 95 lakh, the release said. UNI.....
