Chennai, Mar 13 (UNI) The Myanmar Government has chalked out various new measures to enhance bilateral trade cooperation with India from 2007, its Ambassador U Kyi Thein said today.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Thein said ''Myanmar has already worked out various plans to develop trade ties with India and is willing to cooperate in agriculture, gems and jewellery exports, tourism, industrial and IT sectors.
''Now, we are implementing the infrastructure in our own way and need the technology and investment from India not only through big businesses but also from small and medium enterprises,'' he added.
On IT perspective, Mr Thein said ''India has a strong expertise in IT sector, where Myanmar will also be utilising its rich resources to set up IT parks across the region.'' The volume of trade between India and Myanmar was 557.68 million dollars in 2006.
''We should intensify our efforts to reach the challenging target of one billion dollar during 2007.
''Myanmar is also willing to extend air, land and shipping links between the two countries to promote tourism from both sides not only through the normal route of Delhi to Yangon but also through Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh.
