Mercury rises in Delhi but chill remains

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) A day after intermittent rains and thundershowers led to return of wet and chilly weather conditions in Delhi, a brief spell of Sunlight today led to a slight rise in mercury even as cold winds maintained the chill in the air.

Also, a predominantly overcast sky continued to throw up possibility of more showers.

Even though the maximum temperature today rose to 23.7 Degree Celsius, from 21.3 Degree C yesterday, cold Easterly winds maintained a slight chill in the air.

The maximum of 23.7 Degree C was still six degrees below normal.

For the third consecutive day, the clouds continued to hover on the Delhi skyline. Traces of rainfall were recorded in some areas of Delhi. Weathermen forecast a few more spells of rain later tonight.

Tomorrow could witness a further abatement of the chill with weathermen forecasting a rise in maximum temperature to 25 Degree C.

They have also forecast a fog in the morning hours.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours.

The hot and Sunny weather conditions in Delhi in the past week yesterday gave way to a wet and chilly weather as moderate to heavy rains lashed the capital.

The rainfall, coupled with cold Southwesterly winds, led to a sharp drop in maximum temperature in Delhi to 21.3 Degree Celsius, nine degrees below normal. The drastic fall in mercury lent a chill in the air for the first time in the post-Holi period, which normally marks the onset of Summer.

Over 40 mm of rainfall was recorded since Sunday night - while 20 mm of rainfall was recorded till 0830 hours, over 20mm of rain was recorded between 0830 hours and 1630 Hours yesterday.
