Mayawati not to contest UP elections

Lucknow, Mar 13 (UNI) BSP supremo Mayawati today said she had decided against contesting the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls as she would like to concentrate on campaigning and managing elections.

Talking to newspersons she said, however, if required she would contest the bypoll if the BSP gets absolute majority in the assembly.

''I have decided against contesting polls as I would like to concentrate my energy on campaigning and managing the elections,'' she said.

Ms Mayawati asserted that any MLA of the party could resign to accommodate her in the Assembly.

Four nominations filed on day one for phase I of poll in UP

Lucknow, Mar 13(UNI) Altogether four nomination papers were filed on the opening day of the first phase of elections in UP in which polling will held for 62 assembly seats on April 7. AP to set up more gas filling stations

Hyderabad, Mar 8 (UNI) Admitting lakhs of vehicles were plying on cooking gas in Andhra Pradesh, Civil Supplies Minister N Raghuveera Reddy today said more filling stations would be set up in the state. Replying to questions from Mr M Chandrasekhar Reddy and other Congress members, the Minister said three LNG gas filling stations were being set up in Krishna District and one each in Kakinada, Rajahmundry and Suryapet. Medico killed in road accident

Eluru, Mar 8 (UNI) A medico was killed on the spot and an other seriously injured when a speeding lorry in which they were travelling hit a two-wheeler on Chennai-Kolkata national highway near Aashram Medical College. According to police the duo, Chandra Sekhar and Ramachandra Reddy from Vijayawada were studying third year, MBBS in Aashram Medical College. The lorry, proceeding from Tadepalligudem hit the motorcycle while they were going to college. The deceased was identified as E Chandra Sekhar.....
