LS adjourned for fourth time following unruly scenes over Bill

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today witnessed unruly scenes over the introduction of the Indian Maritime University Bill, 2007, with a scuffle breaking out between members of the Left parties and the DMK over the issue.

Pandemonium prevailed in the Lower House, forcing a fourth adjournment of the House for 30 minutes till 1430 hrs.

Earlier, the House had been adjourned for an hour for the third time till 1400 hrs.

As the din continued when the House re-assembled at 1400 hrs, Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, who was in the chair, adjourned the House, for another 30 minutes.

Earlier, the House had witnessed three adjournments as a scuffle broke out between members of the Left parties and the DMK and other parties from Tamil Nadu over the introduction of the Bill which proposes to set up a maritime research and studies centre of the national level in Tamil Nadu instead of Kolkata.

The first adjournment was for ten minutes while the second adjournment was for 45 minutes and the third for an hour.

The Left members had tried to prevent Minister for Surface Transport T R Baalu from introducing the Bill and one member even tried to snatch a copy of the Bill from the Minister.

This was protested by DMK MPs who surged forward in support of the Minister introducing the Bill. This led to a scuffle between the warring groups, resulting in uproar in the House.

Opposition flays Budget for neglecting farm sector

New Delhi, Mar 13 (UNI) The Opposition today flayed the General Budget for 2007-08 for its ''neglect'' of the farm sector and various sops to the corporate sector. Mr Mitrasen Yadav (BSP) said the budget has just ''ignored'' the concerns of the agricultural setor which toils hard to feed the nation.
